Daisy Update for June 21, 2012

Whew!  Things are humming along for Daisy Arthur and Faith On The Rocks.  This has been a good week.

On Tuesday, the fully executed contract for my first book arrived in the mail.  While I know I’ve been gushing over this event, a contract solidifies the fact that Daisy will find her way to bookshelves before too long.  This makes everything “real.” And now I can tell you that Five Star, an imprint of Thorndike Press, a part of Gale, Cengage Learning is the publisher that will produce my book.

Then, last night I saw a television show about training dogs, and that reignited my interest in life-long training for Prophet. I used to think that keeping a dog on a six-foot lead was too restrictive and confining, but after an evening walk on a shorter lead, I think Prophet and I had a more emotionally connected time together.  Today, I’m going to work on his “front door” skills. In other words, I hope to get to the point where Prophet is not in visitors’ faces the millisecond they walk through my front door.  We’ve worked on this for quite a while, but I now realize this has to be part of a daily training routine. Proph is still going to have his romp at the off-leash park, but I believe that dogs, like school children, thrive and are happier for clear parameters int their routines.

Later in the evening, I sent most of the materials needed for the first round of edits back to my Five Star editor, Alice Duncan.  What a great feeling.  I was responsible for cover copy, author bio (talk about an intimidating task) and submitting suggestions for a cover design.  A long-ish synopsis of the novel was required too.  When I first started writing, I had no idea about needing to be prepared for so many ancillary items. Hope you like them when they come out.

Lastly, I was invited to Beth Groundwater‘s author signing this Sunday at Murder By The Book in Denver.  This should be a lot of fun.  The bookstore is an old home turned into a bookstore, so there are a lot of nooks and crannies all filled with good reads.  I’ve met Beth at a couple of writing conferences and I think I’m going to enjoy reading her newest novel. Maybe you can come too.  Sunday 10:00am to noon. You’ll know it’s the place by the chalk outline of a victim on the walk out front.

That’s what’s going on in this writer’s life.  What’s happening in yours?
